FAQ: What if I need vehicle modifications?
Your occupational therapist may assist you with information on what modifications will suit you best, and where your vehicle may be modified. All vehicle modifications must meet the QLD Transport standards, as well as Australian ADR standards. For complex vehicle modifications, you have have several meeting and trial sessions with the vehicle modifier, as well as ongoing feedback and support from your OT.
Examples of modifications for drivers’ include:
- – Left Foot Accelerator (for right leg conditions)
- – Hand Controls (for both leg conditions)
- – Spinner Knobs, modified indicator and headlight buttons, and other steering modifications (for conditions affecting one of your arms)
- – Access modifications including wheelchair storage solutions
- – High-tech modifications, including drive car from wheelchair.
